WEDNESDAY ASSOCIATION. RESULT OP GAMES. Petonc A 3 Karori ; 2 P. and T 5 Pakeha 2 Hcrcawa 5 Hui Mai 1 Artillery 6 Petone B 0 The fifth series of games in tho first round of the Wednesday hockey competition was played yesterday afternoon in dull weather. In . the, match,. Petonc A v; Karori, the play was: open and very fast, and after a hard-fought contest Petone won,. This places them in-the lead. Post and Telegraph had all ,■ the best of their game with Pakeha, showing more combination and dash. Hereawa outclassed Hui Mai in all-rouiul play, while Artillery put on its first win of the season. by "downing" Petone B. PETONE A—KARORI. Tho match Petone A v. Karori was played at Karori on a slippery ground, rain falling just before the start, and during part of the second spell. Petone, piaying • with ten men, at once carried play into Karori quarters, only to be .driven back, however, by tho fine de-. fence of Iv. Spiers and /Gayford at fullback. Needham (Karori) then started a 'passing rush which sent tho ball into Petone's circle, but Karori lost their chance to score by off-side play. From tho free-hit, Petono carried tho play right down field and into the circle, Vf. M'Ewan finding the net. Shortly after restarting, Henderson (Karori) drove the ball to Atkin, to Cole, to F. Spiers, the last-named taking it into the circle and noching a goal. Tho spell thus ended one all. • In the second spell, Petone began well, Howe finding the net within ten minutes of tho start. The ground by this time was very greasy, and the men had great difficulty in keeping their feet. Karori, however, were putting ill a lot of hard work, and at last Dyer, by a fino piece of play, ended up in shooting a goal. After a lot of give-and-t'ako play, J. M'Ewan, for 'Petone, notched tho third goal, but from this out Petono played on the dcfeiice until the call of time. The game, however, ended, in their favour by 3 goals to 2. . For Petone, M'Ewan Bros., Hartley, Parrant, Beswick shone out, while for Karori IC. and F. Spiers, Needham, and Gayford were tho best. Mr. J. C. Cusack was referee. PAKEIIA-P. AND T. , The match, Post and Telegraph v. Pakeha, wa.s played on the Basin ■ Reserve. In the first spell play was all in favour of. Post and. Telegraph. Tliev soon had Pakeha on the defensive, and, from a pass by .Bale, M'Kay drew first blood. On resuming, Post and Telegraph still _ had the . best o; it, and M'Kay again found the net. Pakeha now put moro life'into their work, and Thompson, taking the ball from half-way, scored a good goal. Post and Telegraph were still doing most of the passing, however... and Bale registered the third goal just before halftime. . In the second spell, play was more even, Craig, for Post and Telegraph, scoring off a pass by one of the Pakeha players. Pakeha now had a turn of attacking, and, from a scramble, Gracie found the net. Play for some time was in the middle of the ground, but just before the call of time Craig (P. and T.) scored; - The'game thus-ended in-favour of Post and Telegraph by 5 coals to 2. • For tho winners, Craig, M'Kay, Ivnapp, and Bale were much ill evidence, while, for Pakeha, Thompson, Gracie, Roach, and Paget were tho best; Mr.'Sherwood was referee. lIEREAWA—HUI MAI. ■ The game between Hereawa and Hui Mai was played at Ivilbirnie. In the first spell the former team had the best of tho play, although they had also at times to stave otf some fine attacks by the Hui Mai forwards. Both Cragg and Kuch scored for. Hereawa. In the second spell Caterer, for Hereawa, managed to find the net. Hui Mai, playing with more dash, held their own anil noy by fine play scored. Hereawa from this out had all the best, of the exchanges, both .Tahn and Kuch scoring. They thus won by 5 goal.s tn 1. For the winners. Caterer, Kuch, .Tahn, and Cramer were fli" licit players, while, for Hui nai. Bay, .T. M'Keever, Hoy, and Bengc were seen a good deal. Mr. G. Empsou was referee. ARTILLERY—PETONE B. i This match was played at Duppa Street, and resulted in a win for Artillery by 6 goals to nil. Mr. Smith was referee. POINTS TO DATE. The following are the points to date:— Petone A, 10; Karori, 8; Post and Telegraph, 7; Pakeha, C; Hereawa. s;.Artillery, 2; Hui Mai, 0; Petone B, 0. Post and Telegraph and Artillery have each one game to play.
