The Carterton Tradesmen's Association has decided to observe whole- holidays, on Saturday, Juno !), and on Thursday, June 22 (Coronation Day). Mr. S. Johnson, of Palmcrslon North, has been appointed judge at the forthcoming show of the South Wairarapa. Poultry Association, which is'to be held; here in July. The local Iwwling club is considering- .• the question of making four more rinks on their green. As the old asphalt tennis court, is never used, and is breaking up, it is likely that bowling rinks will bo put down in its place. Mr. H. Knowlcs has donated 10s. towards tho funds of the Dalefield 1 HockeyClub. Following is tho Dalefield Hockey Club's team to play the Wellington Club's juniors at Wellington on Satnr- ' day ncxh-Ordisk (2), West, Tuimicliffo, I'. Morgan, Goodin, Arcus, Nielsen, ' Bamby, Fcrrick, and Knowles. The Carrington cheese factory has ■ closed down for the season, and it isoxpectcd that the other factories in tho district will foilow suit at tho end of tho month. Tho Liberals of Wairarapa are arranging to hold a "social" in Victoria Hall on Juno 15, when it is expected that several members of Parliament will be ■ present. Tho Carterton branch of the Wairarapa Egg Circle dispatched 12.1 dozen eggs on' Monday for tho Wellington market. Mrs. Robert Cooper, of Gladstone, is • at present spending a holiday 'in Auckland province. It is reported that a syndicate is- being formed in Carterton to establish a permanent picture show here. Tho opening night will probably bo on the King's Birthday. The Carterton Rifle Volunteers have arranged to hold a social gathering at Dalefield on Thursday evening. Good progress is being made with the erection of tho school at Carrington, and tho building should soon bo out of tho contractor's hands. HASTINGS. Mr. W. J. White has decided to sell out Ms interest in the firm of Logan, Williams, and White and rctiro iroin the practice of the law. A number of outside applications have been received for the position of engineer and town clerk advertised for by tho ■Hastings Borough Council. As a result of the recent dispute between the Hastings Borough Council and tho labourers engaged on tho drainago works, a branch of the General Labourers' "Union has been formed here. Mr. M. J. Reardon, the. organising secretary of the Wellington "Union, convened a meeting, which ivas held on Saturday night, and was attended by about 50 labourers. SHANNON, Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P.," addressed a largely-attended open-air meeting in front of the Post. Office, on No-License, on Saturday night. In spite of numerous interruptions from one or two individuals, Mr. Wright had a very good hearing. His replies to questions and interruptions kept oven the interjectors in good ' humour, and, at the conclusion of his address, a unanimous vote of thanks wag accorded. Mr. A. Saunders presided.
