HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
(Fvom Our Special CorrcsDonacnt.) Another "social" in connection with- the Totone Municipal Hand's series was held in the local Drill Hall last night. There was' a good attendance.
An effort is being made to provide an assembly hair for the I'otone District High. School. A special meeting of the committee will be held to-night to discuss the scheme.
Th-s Hutt No-License League are endeavouring to secure the services of Mr. A. J. Black, of Auckland, as a lecturer for the forthcoming campaign. The Eev. Barton H. Ginger, and Mr. T. Townsend have been added'to the list of vice-presi-dents.
A movement is on foot to establish a cottage hospital at Pctone. A strong committee of ladies has been formed, and a canvass of.the borough is being made.
Foneke Lodge of Druids held' a successful "social", in St. Augustine's Hall-last evening. A lengthy programme of dances and musical items was much appreciated.
The opening of the nowly-orocted King George Theatre at Lower Hutt was attended by about 500 people. The floor is pronounced by experienced skaters to be about the best in the . Wellington district. Long before S o'clock eager skaters were outside clamouring for admission. The hall itself is beautifully got up arid decorated, and the enterprising proprietor (Mr. J. T. Hawthorn) has left.little to be desired by those in search of a pleasant oveniug's rinking. A brass band was in attendance last night, and skating will be continued every afternoon till further notice.
