PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
f (From Our Special CorrcsKJ'idcnt.l Palmerston North, May 24. A special meeting of the Palmerston Borough Council was held last evening, Councillor Armstrong (in the absence of the Mayor, who is away at Ohakune) occupying the chair. The rates for the current year,were confirmed, and it was decided to further 'consider the question of tho sold reserve leases at tho meeting of the Public Works Committee on Friday afternoon. The council paid a visit to Tiritia this afternoon, and inspected the works which arc going on in connection with the raising of the water 'works dam. The council of tho Chamber of Commerce met Jast evening, Captain Haydon (president) in tho chair. Captain Preece wrote intimating that Mr. Oeorge Wilson, CO., would give an address to tho members of tho chamber, and tho borough and county councils, on the question of harnessing Lake Waikaremoana, and supplying electric power to Palmerston and other towns.—lt was decided to ask Captain Preece to fix a date for the address. ; A meeting of motor-ear owners (convened by Mr. L. A. Abraham, and presided over bv Mr 11. S. Abraham) was held here vesterdav, when there was a good attendance. After discussion, Messrs. I'. b. Goldinghom, F. H. Cooke, P. J. Nathan, A. Sutherland, and L. A. Abraham, were appointed a committee to go into the question of the formation of an Automobile. Association, and also to endeavour to bring about an amalgamation wit 1i the Peilding Association, so as to fouu a strong association for the whole of tho west coast.
