A family, consisting of a man and wife and their son, aged eight, have been found dead in their residence at North Sydney. The bodies were lying with their backs closa together, ami with a bottle of poison beside them. The police think that the parents murtlercd the child, and llion committed suicide. The name of the family is supposed to be Bastard, and they aro thought to be recent arrivals from New Zealand. Tho house was bare of furniture, and tho father was in great financial difficulties. ABSOLUTELY DESTITUTE. (Rec. May 22, 1.10 a.m.) Sydney, May 21. It has been ascertained that the name of the father of tho family, tho victim* of tho North Sydney tragedy, was Segar Stafford Bastard. Ho was a chemist, and with his wife (Evelyn) and his son came from Wellington or Auckland. Tho man was out of work, and absolutely destitute. He wrote to the police before committing the crime asking them to come and remove tho bodies, staling that the family was taking prussic acid.
