THE EXHIBITION.

PROGRESS REPORT. IDEAS FOR THE OPENING. A joint meeting of the Finance Committee and Executive Committee of the Coronation New Zealand Industrial Exhibition and the General Committee of. the Wellington Industrial Association was held Inst night, Mr. T. Pnllinger presiding over au attendance of twenty members.

The secretary (Mr. H. F. Allen), in a progress report on the exhibition arrangements, stated inter alia that the Entertainment Hall had' been leased to Mr. Manard Daking's English Pierrot Company, which had been performing at St. iCilda, Melbourne, for the past six months. Mr. W. White had been appointed exhibition foreman. Exhibitors were now having their stands erected. A few applicants were not fully satisfied with the allotments accorded tliein, and consequently withdrew their applications. Their vacant spaces were eagerly taken up by others who had previously beevi shut out.

It has been decided to charge for season tickets at the following prices:—Gentlemen, 10s. Gd.; ladies, 7s. 6d.; children, '15.years and under, ss. A Sports Committee, with Messrs. Blick and Pollock as joint secretaries, had been set up. Twelve designs had been received for the certificate of awards.

In moving the adoption of the report (which was agreed to), the chairman said that practically every inch of spaco on the floor was let, but there was room for some more exhibits in the gallery. The only free space, apart from the art gallery, was that given to the Agricultural Department in the gallery. This was a piece of generosity in view of, the fact that tho association had not asked for a subsidy.

The secretary reported that he had written asking his Excellency the Governor whether he would perform the openlug ceremony on May 21, and whether the association might have the pleasure of welcoming Lady Islington on the occasion. Permission had also been asked of his Excellency to erect the Boyal coat of arms at the entrance to the exhibition buildings.

The chairman said the Wellington Liedertafel, under the guidance of Mr. E. Parker, had agreed to - provide the musical programme for the opening function.

Iho secretary reported that he liad been in Communication with people desirous or exhibiting in the home industries section. Some applications for space in the gallery for such exhibits had been received.. A Home Industries. Committee was appointed by the meeting. In a financial statement submitted by the secretary, the receipts were estimated at .£036 3s. 6d., including .£GGO from space fees and .£2lO from selling rights, and not including the proceeds of sale of season tickets.
