KILLED BY A FALL OF EARTH. • (By Telegraph-Press Association.! Woodville, May 9. A young man, 22 years of age, named Timothy Joseph Sullivan, was accidentally killed by a fail of earth at Kumeroa this morning, He- was working on the Woodville County Road contract on the Upper Otawliao Road,- where there is a good deal of excavating work to do. Shortly after startin" work there was a big fall of earth, which smothered him up to his neck. His mates, who were working close by, came to his assistance as soon as possible, but when released he was quite dead. All that is known about him is ; that ho formeriy belonged to Seadown, near 'l'eiiiuka. The body has been brought in to Woodville, and an inquest will bo held. "CHARLES BRYANT"—THEATRICAL. Auckland, May 9. James O'Brien, a middle-aged man, was admitted to the hospital, and died this morning. Evidence at the inquest showed that deceased was proprietor of a hotel at Nukualofa, and had been in tho theatrical profession, where ho was known as "Charles Bryant." He had apparently taken chlorodyne in a cup of tea while suffering from chronic alcoholism. Tho jury returned a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane. THROWN FROM A HORSE. Dunedin, May 9. A farmer named William Kirk, residing at East Taieri, met with a fatal accident this morning. lie was riding a young horse in a paddock when the animal bolted, deceased being thrown against a dray. Death was almost instantaneous. Mr. Kirk, who was 54 years of age, leaves a widow and 13 childien. ACCIDENT IN ADELAIDE ROAD. A lad, named Reginald Thurston, fell under the wheel of £)n express in Adelaide Road yesterday morning, and had his leg broken. He was attended by Dr. Cameron and subsequently taken to the hospital by his father.
