AN EASTER CRUISE.
THE LOG OP THE TANIWHA. On Thursday, April 13, at 12i0 p.m., the Tauiwha dropped her moorings at tho Boat Harbour for an Easter cruise, the crew consisting of Messrs. Jackson (senior and junior), li. Ward, T. Highct, H. Highet, and E. Garland; also three lady passengers. Says one of them:—With a singlereefed mainsail wo soon cleared tho entrance, and passed s.s. Aorere coming abreast of Sinclair Head, and at 2.10 p.m. wo shaped a course for Port Underwood. Just before wo rounded Tongue Point we passed s.s. Arahura, and a fishing boat busy getting her nets on board. As we got clear of the land, tho wind steadied up, and we shook out tho reef in tho mainsail and gave her tho -.lib and jigger. At i p.m. the "steward" came up with afternoon tea, not forgetting hot cross buns. Just as dusk was falling wo rounded Robinson's Point, and at 6.35 p.m. we dropped anchor in Guard's Bay, after a very comfortable trip of six hours. After the evening meal we went ashore to spend the evening. As it was raining steadily our hostess kindly invited ,the ladies to stop in her house (as the tents were all wet), while the crew returned to the launch. Tho following morning dawned, wet and ; miserable, and at 8.15 a.m. tho Rona rounded the point, closely followed by Kotiri, and Ngaira following some tiino after. Rona crossed tho line at 9.2 a.m., Kotiri 0 a.m., and Xgaira 9.27 a.m., winning by two minutes corrected time. Afterwards Waitangi put in an appearance. All hands adjourned ashore, and inspected tho preparations for an impromptu concert, which was 1 to bo held that evening in the large boat-shed. The various crews also sent telegrams home announcing their safe arrival. Saturday dawned bright and clear, and the crew filled in time fishing. They also took'a party outside, and sighted a yacht in the ditsance, which proved to bo Mahina. Saturday evening was occupied by holding a "grand concert." _ Next morning wo awoke the echoes with the news that Patronus had arrived, and White Heather shortly afterwards. There was an excursion to one of the bays during the day, and on Sunday evening we held a sacred concert, which was very much enioyed by all. , Monday saw nil'the yachts homeward bound, but at 12.30 Patronus put back, not liking the weather. After this we left ' '-v Wellington under full sail, and reefed iib, and after an exceptionally rough tossing in the rip arrived at the Boat Harbour at 5.57 n.m.. putting ui> a smart trin of 5 hours 20 minutes. We were all wet, but happy.
