HAPPY LYTTELTON.
THE PROPORTION OP LANDLORDS. Speaking to a reporter in regard to the report that. Mr. G. W. Kussoll, M.P., had stated that there was evidently a large number of landlords in Lyttelton, because ofit of a population of 1000 only G23 were ratepayer?, Mr. G. Laurenson, M.P., said that the figures showed that there were very few; landlords in the town. If six individuals were allowed for each family, there would bo about GGG families in Lytteiton, and if in those families there were (523 ratepayers, it was obvious tlnit-.np-.vly. every family owned its own liouse. As a matter of fact, sis out of seven people in the borough were their own landlords. Some time ago it was stated in the newspapers that Berlin, in the norlh-ivcst of Canada, was (he most prosperous town in the world because three out of four people there owned their own houses, b'ii Lyttelton, judged by the same standard, enjoyed a much larger share of prosperity.
