KEEN DEBATE IN CONGRESS. - FREE-TRADE WITH CANADA. By Telegraph—Press Associati-on-Copyricht Washington, April 19. In the United States House of Representatives Democratic speakers debated tho Reciprocity Agreement between Canada. and the United States. They advocated Free-trade with Canada. Mr. Henry George said he believed the timo was coming when the United States would have Free-trade with tlie entire world. Mr. Joseph Cannon, ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives, savagely attacked tho Reciprocity Bill. A Democratic representative, Mr. Giulger, caused surpriso by- his criticism of the measure. Tho measure reaches the Senate on Thursday next.
FARMERS AND THE TARIFF, A MOMENTOUS ISSUE. (Gee. April 21, 0.55 a.m.) Washington, April 20. The Ways and Means Committee of the Lower House lias reported on the Farmers' Free List Bill, recommending farreaching . reductions in tariffs on commodities farmers require. The Canadian agreement is hailed as beneficial to agricultural interests. The House, after debating reciprocity, has further adjourned. The representatives agreed in declaring reciprocity the most momentous issue before the country since the Spanish-American War.
