DECAYING LIFEBUOYS.
PERISHED FOR WANT OF PAIXT,
The state of disrepair and decay into which the lifebuoys on the Thorndon Esplanade have- been allowed to drift calls for immediate attention from the repairs branch of the City Council. The lifebuoys, which are hung ni intervals alouj the Esplanade, so as to bo ready to hand in the event of any of the many children who use the parade as a playground falling into Hie harbour from Iho unprotected concrete wall, do not appear lo have received any attention for a very lonp; lime. The outside canvas has rotted oit several of Ihe buoys, as the result of espoMire to tho weather and the failure of the authorities to give the buoys an ccensional coat of paint. Tho City Council could with advantage inako the l:fcbuoys in question the special ciro of thn custodian of I lie 'J'horudon Baths, nnd thus ensure thai they would be kept in a thorough state of repair.
