AFTER THE BOOM.
CHAFFINCH CASE ENDS,
MINE FLOATED ON HEARSAY
By Telegraph-Press Association-Conyrieht Perth, April i. The hearing of the Great Chaffinch conspiracy charges has ended. The accused— E. C. Dyasoii. E. W. Bonwick, and Harold Grcenaway— were discharged. The three were each and severally charged as follow:—"That you, between November 2D, 1010, and December 13, 1!)10, at Southern Cross and elsewhere in Wesiern Australia, conspired with others to affect by deceit the market prices of .shares in tho Great Chaffinch Goldraining Company, No Liability, being things which were publicly sold." The magistrate (Mr. Roe, P.M.), after hearing counsel for tho defence, declared that no jury could find that defendants had circulated the report that the mine had been "salted."- He believed such report to bo false. The case against all three would be dismissed. Tho magistrate, referring to the transactions of other persons connected with the mine, said the mine had been floated on the strength of a telegram based on hearsay, and had extracted .£125,000 from the pockets of tho public. It was a monstrous, crying shame that such a thing could be possible.
