A CHASE IN THE CITY.
—.. $.__ THE POLICEMAN WINS. At about -1.30 p.m. yesterday, two men entered Flockton's store in Manners Street, and one of ; them disposed of a couple of articles for the sum of a shilling. The constable then observed that one of them had some knives showing from the inside pocket of his coat, and questioned him concerning them. The man did'not stay to parley, neither did ho stand upon the order of his going, but bolted into Old Customhouse Street, with the constable in pursuit, the chase following the direction of Lombard Street into Manners Street once more. Meanwhile Sergeant Lyons had observed a crowd of spectators at the top of Parish Street. They acquainted him of the little drama which was going on, and stated that the fugitive had run up Herbert Street and into Edward Street. The sergeant eventually effected the arrest of a man at the back of a private residence, where a fence'' proved an insurmountable obstacle. Proceedings follow to-day.
