42 INCHES OF RAIN IN 48 HOURS By Teksraph—Press Association—ConyriEht Brisbane, April 1. A gale, with heavy seas and ruin, is raging on the coast. The Palmer and other rivers are in flood. Telegraphic communication is badly interrupted, and there have been several railway washaways. , Cairns reports eighteen inches of rain in twenty-four hours. All parts of the district are flooded. AN EXTRAORDINARY DELUGE. (Rec. April 3, 0.15 a.m.) Brisbane, April 2. Extraordinarily heavy rainfalls are recorded in some districts. Cairns reports that the river and creeks are in high flood and still rising. The railway is inundated, and there have been several washawayt, bridges being damaged in some cases. At Kuranda, twenty miles out from Cairns, 42 inches of rain was recorded in 48 hours. The total rain for three months was 8 feet 5 inches. Much damage has been done to the cane crops.
