g MANUFACTURERS IN TROUBLE. By Tclcgra nU-Fress Association-Oopyrisht - Sydney, March 31. A meeting of manufacturers discussed tho question of tlio shortage of femalo labour. Several state that they wore prepared to start a largo number of. hands, but the hands wore not. available. Ono speaker declared that Sydney and Melbourne between them could absorb CUOO girl employees. Ono firm had orders for 40,000 garments, hut there was no hope of filling tho order owing to dearth of hands. Tho manufacturers wero willing to increase wages by, 6 per centum. The meeting resolved to ask tho Government to assist in bringing out girl immigrants who will bo guaranteed regular work at the ruling rate of wages.
