BOROUGH COUNCIL PLEASANTRIES.
The effrontery of a youthful inhabitant of Miramar in habitually riding a horse on the local footpaths provoked the wrath of Councillor Muir at last night's meeting of the Borough Council. Councillor Muir persisted in attempting to introduce his grievance when (ho Mayor was passing the accounts for payment. The Mayor turned a severe eye on the interrupting councillor, but the latter pursued his way undaunted. "Will you sit down?" asked the Mayor. "No, I won't," replied the councillor. "Sit down I" commanded the Mayor, but the councillor still stood.
"Sit down, sir! Sit down!" again commanded the borough's chief citizen, but the councillor 'was adamant,
"Will you sit down, sir?" was the final word by the Mayor, but again his order was ignored. The Mayor proceeded to pass accounts, and Councillor Muir continued his statement about the broken bylaw. The duel ended in favour of the. who unburdened himself of the following statement, addressed to the Mayor:—' " ■'* '
"It is something awful. Because yen nre in Hie chair you think you can jolly well do as you like. You are .not going to shut me up, your Worship. There has been too much of that to-night." Councillor Muir then proceeded to voice his complaint, and asked that the borough ranger should lay hold of tho offending youth and "persecute" him. The Mayor retaliated 'by informing Councillor Muir that tho ranger could not be expected to sleep on the footpath.
