Captain Macarthur-Onslow/'of, the 16th . .Lancers, has been appointed for service • in New. Zealand. The following officers, appointed for service with tho New Zealand Defence forces, will leave by.the undermentioned steamers:—Captain A. Moore, by the lonic; Captain W. A. Jacomb,. by the Huahine; Captain H. 0. Knox, by tho • Turakina; and Major G. Johnston, by tho Tongariro. Major G. N- Johnston, of the Royal Garrison Artillery, has been appointed Director of Ordnance in the New Zealand Defence Forces, vice Lieutenant-Colonel 11. F. Head, recently ' returned to England. This appointment will be hailed , ivitli general satisfaction by the New Zealand Field and Garrison Artillerymen, to yhoin he is an old friend and a highly popular officer. Major Johnston, it "vill bq remembered, held the position of Director of -Artillory during the term fff engagement prior to . the appointment of Lieutenant-Colonel Head, aud'left behind him the reputation of being a keen and energetic officer. Captain 11. O. Knox, of the British Army Servicei. Corps, is coming out to organise the New Zealand Army' Service Corps, a branch of the service which in New Zealand lias not yet been ' given serious attention.' Tho Army Service | Corps is the'power behind, what is known ' as tho first and second line regimental transport, tho drivers of the second line transport being .supplied by the Army ■ bcrvice Corps. Behind the regimental transport being supplied by the Army simple of the Army Service.Corps, in the chape of the divisional transport and supply columns, from which tho regimental wagons draw their supplies; these columns aro in turn filled up from either advanced depots or from transport and 6upply "parks." Captain-Macarthur-Onslow (17th. Lancers) is coming out under appointment on the General Instructional Staff (mounted regiments),' and Captain W •( Jacomb (Essex Regiment), and Captain A. Moore (Dublin Fusiliers), as . General btnlt instructors for tho infantry regiments. " . Three or four appointments are' still pending.
