THE TURF.

ENGLISH RACING. THE LINCOLNSHIRE HANDICAP. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, March 21. The following was the result of the LINCOLNSHIRE HANDICAP, of law sovs.; second fiO sovs., ami third 25 sovs. from stake. The straight, mile. Mr. C. Ilibbert's b. h. Mercutio, by Forfarshire— Sillabub, Gyrs., Sst. 41b 1Mr. G. Manby Colegrove's b. h. Brnndimintine, Syrs., 6st. 51b . 2 Mr. J. B. Joel's b. c. Spanish Prince, 4yrs., Bst. slb 3 (Winner trained by .1. Cannon.) NOTES AND COMMENTS. [By Glencoe.l Patrons of racing will to-day assemble at Opaki, where the Masterton Club will cater for them. The opening event, which starts at 12.40, is the Maiden Scurry, ill which a poor lot of horses are opposed by a rather smart two-year-old in Sir Knox. The withdrawal of Makara in this event will probably cause the Opaki colt to start a hot favourite. - Lethean has not a formidable lot opposed to him in the Waipipi Cup. The best of his opponents appears to be Te l'uia, who seems rather harshly treated with Bst. 71b. There, is a very largo field in the Dash Hack, and anything not well served at the barrier will have very little chance of getting up afterwards. Attention (A. Oliver) will not meet with much opposition in the Opaki Welter, as Lethean and Meroze will probably start in the Clip. The retirement from racing is announced of Mr. C. L. M'Donald, owner of Blairgour, and the Oaldeigh Plate and Futurity Stakes winner is to be sold later on. There have been few more fortunate men in racing than the Victorian sportsman. Amongst others he owned those three champions, "Wakeful, Revenue, and Aureus. This trio are all alive and well. The Newmarket Handicap winner, Queen of Scots, was sold recently for 10CU' guineas. When Trafalgar galloped home ahead of Alawa and Bobadea in the Champion Plate at Fleiningtuii, it was the gallant chestnut's first victory since October 0, 1909, when lie won the Plate at Randwick. Since then he lias been a consistent place-getter, winning in second and thirds stakes to the value of JE2350. This must be a record for place money. Maori ICing is moving very scratchily in his slow work at liandwick, and his chances of seeing the post at the A.J.C. Autumn meeting are not regarded as rosy by Australian writers. When working on the • tracks here the black colt always appeared to move, better when warmed up. A private letter, received by yesterday's mail from Sydney, states that Lady Medallist was landed in perfect order, and quite free from the soreness! which is generally noticeable in horses stepping off the boat. The writer adds that the cognosenti will not have the mare as a winner of races. Tho New Zealand mare, Pakau, which was recently shipped to Sydney, will start at Rosehill in the Hurdle race on April 1. Other Dominion horses engaged in the same event are Contorp and Hautapu. "Pilot," in trc Sydney "Arrow," snys that Bridge now presents a much better appearance than when he landed in Sydney, from New Zealand some weeks ago. All Red, who- is now doing stud duty on his owner's station at Uedeastle, is likely to receive plenty of patronage. Already 25 mares have bceji booked to him for next season. A good winner of the Newmarket-Aus-tralian Cup double was the ex-New Zealand trainer D.- J. Price. CI. Cooper, who rode the-winning double, is reported to. have profited considerably, and is now about to retire from the saddle, and set up as a public trainer at Caulfield. ! Thy Witii'santii Trotting Club's meeting' takes placo to-day and to-morrow. Owners are reminded that general entries for tho Auckland Racing Club's meeting 'close on Friday evening . next. ; ; Acceptances are due at the same tinio for the Easter Handicap, Brighton Hurdles, and Autumn Steeplechase. R. Cameron, who rodo Blairgour to victory in the Oakloigh Plate and Cfiulfield Futurity Stakes, is to have the mount on the Wallace colt in (he. Doncaster Handicap, and the All Aged Slakes at Kandwick next month. Mr. Laery, secretary of the Wairarapa Racing Club, will receive nominations at Feathqrston up till Saturday next for the club's autumn meeting, which is to bo held at Tauherinikau on April 15 and 17. W. Mold, stud groom at Uedeastle, arIvopek (brother to Oiyoi) and Fougasse (Kilcheran—Ambush). After handing over the pair to J. H. Prosser, Mold left for the south again by the evening steamer. Although the Rules of Racing make it compulsory that tho accident fee must bo paid before a horse shall be permitted to weigh out for any race at a meeting where the totalisator is used, it occasionally happens that horses are allowed to start without the fee being collected. A circular to racing clubs issued by the conference notifies that in future this rule will bo jtrictly enforced, and fines will be inflicted for breaches thereof. The official of the meeting through whose neglect the fee is not collected before starting is also liable to a fine.
