NO-LICENSE.
' MEETING AT KARORI. At a No-License meeting held in the Methodist Church, Karori, last evening, the Hev. J. R. Clarke presided over an attendance- of about sixty supporters of the movement. Speeches were delivered by the Rev. J. Dawson (secretary of the New Zealand Alliance) and the Rev. AY. J. Comrie (president of the local league). Both speakers dealt with the effects of Nlv License, stressing its importance in relation to the Labour question, and combating the view that tho triumph of NoLicense would have any harmful- effect on the public revenue. Those present wero urged to vote upon both the national and the local issue at the coming poll. As suggesting that property was not of necessity depreciated when "No-License was carried, Mr. Dawson cited the case of a boardinghouse in Gore, which at one time was a licensed hotel. Since the adoption of the reform thirty rooms had been added to the building, and the accommodation provided was better than ever. Mr. Comrie remarked that at each of the two last polls the number of NoLicense areas had been doubled. 'The figures rose successively from three to six, and from six to twelve. He hoped that this rate of progress would bo maintained. At the conclusion of the meeting a strong committee was set up to beat up support in tho district, preparatory to the forthcoming poll. During the evening, the Brooklyn Glee Club, under the baton of Mr._ W. M'Clellan, sarig "A way to the West," "Tbo| Roadside AVeU," and "The Song of the Gypsies." Mrs. Free contributed a solo, "Ye Banks and Braes." and Miss Dolly I'etherick rendered "Love's Old Sweet Song."
