(By Telegraph — Special Correspondent.! Wanganui, March 19. The aui>ual conference of the Churchcs of Christ in tho middle district of New Zealand will be held this year , in Wanganui, commencing on Good Friday. It looked as if the drought meant to break up last' night, but only a few fentle showers fell, and to-day the Heather is as hot and dry as ever. The indications are, however, for rain before long, -and it will be welcomed by everybody when it does come. Tlio annual "bridge to bridge" swimming raco of two miles was held this afternoon, the competitors having the assistance of a fairly strong ebb. The race was won by Borthwick, Stewart being second, and Bigncll. third. Tho winner, who is a Sydneyite residing temporarily in Wanganui, swam with an easy and powerful hand-over-hand stroke and won easily by 200 yards. ■ The third man was close up.
