VALUELESS CHEQUES.
SAID HE WAS SOX OF A LORD. (By Tclecrapli.—Press Association.! Auckland, March 8. A young man named' Albert L. Gibbs, alias Gordon Palmer, was charged at the Police Court this afternoon with having obtained .£2O from the firm of George Fowlds, Ltd., on January 28, by moans of a valueless cheque. Sub-Inspector Hendry informed the bench that accused' had made a full confession of this and other similar offences. He had represented himself to be the Hon. Evelyn V. Kitson, second son of Lord Airedale, and tho cheque that was cashed purported to havo been drawn by Evelyn V. Kitson. Thcro were other charges of obtaining money to the total amount of ,£3!) from various business people, and the case of one cheque for £7 t'o which the namo of Mr. A. Myers, M.P., was forged. Accused was also charged with having attempted to commit suicide on February 22 by taking morphia. At tho conclusion o'f tho evidence, accused, who bad not attempted to cross-examine the witnesses, pleaded guilty, and was committed to tho Supreme Court for sentence.
