It was decided to applv to the Government for provisional approval of a loan of J51250 to construct the Beach. Road at Foxton. Mr. Leslie Gorton was re-appointed the council's representative on the Feilding Technical School Committee. The chairman stated that next year the council would have to face an expenditure of .£6OO or .£7OO for re-decking the Bulls Bridge. The tramway manager reported that the traffic on all lines was again good, and resulted in a credit balance being made, for the month of .£ll3 9s. lid. The principal items of traffic were:—Grain, 252 tons; minerals, 93 tons; merchandise, 125J tons; grass seed. 169 tons; timber, 15,000 ft.; wool, 238 bales; metal, 295 yards; fares, .£l3 Ss. Id. SHANNON. Last Sunday members of the local Catholic Church presented Father Kelly with tx horse and trap. Mr M. Moynihan made the presentation. Tho horse was donated by Mr. Smith, of Moutoa. 'Earthquakes have been of almost daily occurrence recently, four tremors having been experienced locally during the past 'week. It has been noticed that such /'quakes" have been heralded by sultry gusts from the east—an univsual quarter for anything but cold winds'. On the bowling green on Wednesday afternoon the results in the single championship games were as follow:—W. Clayton, 18, v. J. B. Esson, 17; E. B. Stephenson, 17, v. J. Roach, 21. A rink consisting of Messrs. Gibson, Olsen, Lind, and .Mitchell (s.) defeated Messrs. Stephenson, Hansen, Henderson, and Gunning (s.). On the tennis courts, Miss Asquith was successful in winning Mrs. Schmidt's trophy. In the Druids'" Hall on Thursday night before a large attendance of brethren P.G.P. Bro. B. R. Gardiner, of the Horowhenua Lodge, unveiled tho merit board, on which is shown the lodge's recognition of their Past Arches. He recommended members to bear in mind the first A.D. of the Shannon Lodge as a model of 'what a Druid should be. Tho inerit board contains tho following list:— '!. Lind, May and November, 1903; W. Dunckley, the retiring secretary of.the hall, with a gold medal in token of the lodge's appreciation. P.D.P. Bro. J. AY. Batchelor presented tho lodge with a framed photograph of the members of the recent biennial conference at Auckland. At a meeting of tho Hope of Shannon Lodge, 1.0. G.T., held last, week, Bro. J. Pctterson, on !>ehalf of tho members-, presented Sister Yeda Wickliffe with a handsome silver cake-basket. Bro. Petterson made very complimentary reference to the work which Sister Wickliffo had performed in . connection with the lodge, and wished.her every happiness in her approaching married life. Bro. G. H. Gibb was the recipient of a shaving set, a tangible recognition of the good work he had done. 3ro. C. F. Exall mado the presentation on behalf of members.
