LAWN TENNIS.
DAVIS CUP CONTEST. By rddtrapli—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. March 3, 11.40 p.m.) Sydney, March 3. The secretary of the Australasian Lawn Tennis Association to-day received a letter from South Africa, containing a challenge for the next Davis Cup contest. This is the first occasion on which South Africa has entered the lists for tho world's tennis championship. She will have to boat Great Britain and America in order to meet Australia as holders in the challenge round.
The entries remain open until Monday, and there is still a possibility of Germany challenging. Tho committee will meet on Monday to dccide tho latest date on which tho preliminary tie may bo played.
