R.M.S. CORINTHIC FIRED ON.
BY BBAZILJAN BATTLESHIP. Those ivho were on board the Corinthic when she called at Eio de Janeiro on her last trip Home experienced the unusual sensation of. being fired at by a Brazilian battleship. Just as the steamer was entering that • magnificent harbour a shot from one of the warships passed across her bows. Imagining that the gunners of the Brazilian Navy, were merely indulging in practice, those on the Corinthic save the incident no serious thought. The steamer glided on, aid a few seconds later a second round (this time a shell) ploughed up the water 20 yards in front of the vessel. ■ •■ Deeming discretion to be the better part of valour, , the commander of .the Corinthic promptly rang up the engineroom to go full speed astern, and stopped his vessel. A boat in charge of one, of the officers was put off ! to the warship for an explanation. The officer found the battleship in charge of the boatswain, it being' the timo of the mutiny. The result of the affair was that the Corinthic was obliged to remain a whole day in port, but was subsequently, allowed to proceed on her ; voyage to London. . '. ■
