WATERSIDE WORKERS' UNION.

'A' LIVELY , MEETING. ' ".' I>robably tho most noteworthy' meeting, in point'of attendance in tho! history of the Wellington Waterside Workers Union, was that which was held nt tho Trades Hall Inst owning to consider the action of tho Trades and Labour Council in declining to accept the credentials of tho ne.v delegates elected to represent the union on tho council, on tho ground that ono of tho sitting delegates (Mr. J). M'Laren, M.l'.) had disputed the election, and that, further, this* dispute must .bo settled, and tho position definitely cleared up before tho status of the delegates referred to could . bo recognised. Nothing definite, however, was decided by the meeting last night, but so far as could bo gathered, the proceedings throughout wero very animated. From an authentic source it was , gathered that after a few preliminaries a motion was proposed that the Trades Council bo asked to apologiso for its action in declining to recognise the union's delegates. This was seconded, nnd a division wns called for,- but that, it is stated, is so far as tho meeting went. Monitors of tho Executivo Council of the Now Zealand Federation of Waterside Workers—Messrs. J. Jnckson (Greyinouth), nresident of tho federation; ][. K, Voyce, secretary of tho Lyttolton Waterside Workers' Union; F, Lurch, vice-president of '.he federation and pro-' sident of the T.yttclton Stevedores' Union; nnd J. O'Loiighlin, vice-president of tho Lyttelton Stevedores' Union, wore present at tho. meeting by courtesy, and it was , expected that some discussion might havo taken placo on tho subject of tho Pnton strike,'but tho nature of tho proceedings precluded any hope of a serious debate, on the Question, which, therefore,' was not raised.
