A few minutes before 10 p.m. on Monday, witness was on the balcony of the house and deceased was in his bedroom. Witness heard a peculiar cry, and went to the bedroom door and saw deceased fall, his head striking the fender.. He riever spoke, and was probably dead when he fell. After placing a pillow under deceased's head, witness rang up Dr. Clay, who arrived shortly after and pronounced life extinct. Deceased had not been well for some weeks, and found breathing difficult at times. He had intended to go to Christchnrch on the Tuesday .night, and was making preparations for the trip on Monday night. Dr. C. D. Henry, who made a postmortem examination of tho body, stated that the heart was enlarged, and there was valvular disease of some years' standing.' Death was due to a rupture of one of the diseased valves. Any extra and sudden cxor'.'on would have been sufficient to cause the rupture of the valve. The other organs were practically normal excepting tho kidneys and liver, which wcro affected on account of the heart disease. A scalp wound on the back of tho head was probably tho result/of the fall at the time of death.
