Auckland, February 11. ■ The present unsatisfactory state of the labour, market was the subject of some discussion at a meeting of the, Auckland. Industrial Association to-day, \. ' Mr. S. C. Clark referred to the opposition shown by (ho labour' people in reference to the importation 'of ; boy labour from Home, and said he thought the as* sociation should approve of the scheme. He moved: "That, considering the stato of the labour market at present, the scheme of bringing in boys should be approved, providing that the immigration-is carried out with discretion on the part of the movers." ■ . ._ •■■.'■ The motion w4s carried unanimously. ; The scarcity of workers was.referred to.' by Mr..B. "ivho said manufacturers were unable to get men and women to do the work offering. large numbers'of men and women were required, the scarcity of girls being.particularly felt. "I myself wanted 50 to 100 girls a short time ago," remarked Mr. Buttle, "but could not get any. This absence of workers is general." He moved: "That' in view of the gTeat shortage of labour this association brings under the notice of the Government the urgent necessity of question into serious consideration * with ' a view .to relieving the dangers which this shortage threatens to bring upon.the industries concerned." . The.,motion, was. carried, and it wastfoeided to forward a copy to the Minister for Labour. ■ . . ,
