Teießrann—Press Association.)':. • -..:.:■ •r-:ChristchurQhj February 14. ~ At half-past eleven this morning-Harry Alexander Jack • and ■■Walter - Eichard Sadler were arrested at the latter's shop in Cashel Street, and charged with the nnirder of Ethel May Bradley, on or about February 7, at Christchurch. The nrrest nas • made ' by; Chief. Detective Bishop and Detectives Eade, Miller, and Gibson. TJio.'two 'submitted quietly. Both were given the usual caution made at arrests, ,aiul-accordingly< made no state-_ inents. . -.-: • . ■ A- special sitting of- the Police Court was held at 12.20 p.m. by Mr. H. W. Bishop, §.M., when the two men were formally charged with the crime. , . Mr. Kuissll appeared for Sadler. "On the application, of Chief Detective Bishop, who appeared for, the prosecution, - a formal remand was granted -till .to-morrow ■week, accused not objecting. ';' Both lnen , stepped into the dock confidently enough/ Sadler with 'a smile upon his face.; When he heard the word "Murder," however, it seemed to shake his self-possession.- His eyes.blinked, he bit his lip, and at the finish was trembling all over. Jack looked more serious in the dock than Sadler, but retained his 6elf-possession, a forced smile occasionally wreathing his face. Both men were deathly pale. .■• • . ■ ', ■ ; . Sadler is a man of about 35 years of age, a barber by trade. He was born in Lyttelton, and leaving school some 20 years ago learnt his business at Lyttelr ton, and has since worked in various shops in-this city, at one time being manager for a'certain tobacconist's shop and hairdressing saloon. About four years.ago ho entered Mr.. Russell's tobacconist shop and hairdressing salodnin ! Cashel 'Street, and succeeded Russell in the' business ■ three months ago. ■ . Jack is 23 years, of: age, rather, under medium height, of straight figure, rather dark, with straight" hair* and is dean shaven, with a pallid complexion. He hails from Dunedin, • where his father keeps a boot shop, arriving'here about four years ago. He did relief work in various shops until he entered the service of Mr. Hjissell, Sadler's predecessor, about three years iigo, when badler took over the business three months ago Jack entered his employ. - -.; ~ '.
