• (By Telegraph'.—Prcjj Association.) AN AUCKLAND'CASE. SENSATIONAL FEATURES. ; Auckland, February 13. An affiliation caso heard at the Magistrate's Court before 31 r. Kettle, S.M. this afternoon, presented somo sensational features. Pattio' Keyte, an unmarried woman, of Auckland, sought ,to obtain a maintenance, order, against "Charles Bookcs, alleging him to bo the fnthcr of her child. After slio had given her evidence, and the defendant was in the box, tho magistrate .asked the latter to look straight into the woman's faco and deny that lie was tlio father of the ohild. Ho did 60.' and the plaintiff historically exclaimed: "Now/I will tell tlio truth about it all!" Later, she was recalled and alleged that defendant, in company with another man, took her to a woman in l'onsonby who performed an illegal operation for which tho sum of J!5 was paid. Tho operation, she said, was successful, but later defendant got her into similar trouble, culminating in the present case. She did not intend to bring the allegation, but tlio denials of defendant made her do so. Tho defendant recalled emphatically denied the charts and tho caso was adjourned, his Worship stating that n thorough investigation into tho matter was necessary;, , -. .
