Most of tho union representatives concurred in stating that tho .mental and physical strain on motorinen was exceedingly severe. Mr. Church, a conductor, struck another note when .ho'declared that he had. served for three- years and had not suffered in any way physically or mentally. Motornian Boylo said tho work''of: a' conductor was harder than that of a'iriotoriuan awl-was supported in his view by Mr. White, vicepresident of tho union, who said ho would not go back to conducting after having been a driver, although tho work of ,a conductor was less nerve-racking. What he objected to was tho mental strain that the work of a conductor involved. Mr. Walton remarked that many peri left the service, after serving for o while as motormen.
