Before Mr. A. D. Thomson, S.M., Charles Natusch, of Wellington, sought to recover £81 Is. Bd. from Wm. T. Hoak, balance, owing for architect's fees in connection with the building of tho Denbigh Hotel. After hearing evidenco tho magistrato gave judgment for plaintiff for £73 10s. Tho question of costs was reserved pending the hearing of a counter-claim. ■
Councillor Hartford asked tie Mayor at the council meeting what had become of the electric lighting committee. Tho Mayor (Mr. Goodbeherc) replied that it had gone out with' the Opera House scheme. Councillor Tolley, chairman of tho committee, said they were waiting to see what the' Government proposals for tho supply of electric power wero going to bo. "Then you will wait a long time," remarked Councillor Bramwell. ■»■'■.■

At the last monthly meeting of tho State School Committee>it was decided to placo on record tho success of the threo scholars whor secured scholarships, and to wmgratulato tho headmaster on bringing tho pupils to such a state of proficiency. A vote of condolenco was passed to Miss Jacob, who recently sustained a heavy loss by the death of her mother. Thanks were extended tho ladies who judged tho scholars' sewing, and to Mr. Rollo for a donation, of wire patting.
Mr. Frank Serancko, a dairy farmer here, yesterday afternoon discovered 13 of his cows dead, due it is thought to the : animah getting into a clover paddock and over-feeding. Recently, Mr. Serancke' lost five "others," while another settler lost one. The Government veterinary surgeon is to bo asked to 1 make an examination.
