PROPOSED INCREASE IN STATE MEMBERS' PAY.
PREFERENCE TO UNIONISTS. POWERS OF FEDERAL PARLIAMENT. By Telegraph—Pres3 Association— CoprriEht (liec. February 5, 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, February 5. The Labour Congress carried a resolution that every member governed by an award under the Industrial Disputes Act should contribute to tho fund 6of the union obtaining sncli award. This was made a plank in tho fighting platform. Another resolution favoured an increase of State members' pay to .2500. (Jlec. February 6, 0.20 a.m.) Sydney, February 5. The Labour Congress reaffirmed tho claim for absolute preference to unionists. It was resolved, after a lieated debate', that the Inter-State Conference, which draws up the Federal Labour platform, ought to be reconstituted on a population basis, and that the conference elected on the present basis should do nothing but carry out suob reconstitutjon. Mr. Holman, in moving to this cffect, declared that unless the functions handed over to tho Federal Parliament woro safeguarded, be and others like him would be driven out of the Labour movement. Mr. Holman subsequently moved that the Labour movement opposes any further extension of the power.of tho Federal Parliament until the constitution has been reorganised upon lines which will • secure Parliamentary supremacy. : The discussion was adjourned until Monday night. : The Labour Congress rejected a motion in favour of making land nationalisation the second plank of tho platform. A resolution was carried that any Government servant contesting an election shall not lose his position in tho service, but should be allowed time off at his own expense.
