POLICE FORCE.

IMPORTANT CHANGES ANNOUNCED.

Important police changes are announced ' by the Attorney-General (the Hon. Dr. Findlay).

Inspector Kiely, wbo has been acting as inspector in charge of the Canterbury district during the absence onleave of Inspector Gillies, will, retain control of the Canterbury district. Inspector Mitchell will bo transferred from Invercargill to Dunedin, to. replace Inspector O'Brien, who. has retired, and Inspector Mitchell's place at Invercargill, will be taken by Sub-Inspector O'Donovan. now at Palmerston North, who will be promoted to- the rank of inspector. Sub-Inspector Norwood, of Wellington, will replace Sub-Inspector O'Donovan at Palmereton. North, and Sub-Inspector Phair will go from Duncdin to Timaru in place of Sub-Inspector Green, who retired.

Sergeant Batholomow Sheehan, at present in -charge of the Newton Station at Auckland, will be promoted to tho rank of sub-inspector.

Another .appointment of a sub-inspec-tor will shortly be mode, and the claims of the senior members of the detective branch of the force to this office will then bo considered.
