A ROYAL VISITOR.

PRINCE LEOPOLD BOUND NORTH, j Prince Leopold of Battenberg, accompanied by Dr. M'llroy, returned to Wellington by the Mapourika from Westport late on Saturday evening. Since leaving Wellington on January 23 the' Prince' has made an extended journey in the South Island. He proceeded first to Christch'urch, where, with his party, he made a stay of a week. From Christchurch the Prince proceeled to Eeefton, making the journey through tne Otira Gorge by,coach. Coaching from Reefton to Wcstppi't* through the Buller . -Prihce'Liotiold and his party joined the Mapourika j at the latter port, and reached Wellington, as stated, on ' Saturday evening. .;s The .Prince was very much imi lessed. by the scenery iri the gorges and tho other natural beauties' which he encountered during his journey, and stated freely that he had seen nothing finer at any point in his trhvels. During his present brief stay in Wellington, .Prince Leopold is the guest of the Governor and Lady Islington at Government House. To-day he. leaves by Main Trunk express for Waimiru, en route for Rotorua and Auckland. Apart from Dr.'. M'llroy and his immediate entourage, the Prince will he' accompanied by Sir James Mills, Lady Mills, Miss Mills, and 'Miss- Chirnside, of Melbourno. The party will leave-the express at Waiouru, proceeding by coach to Tokaanu, and thence across tho lake to Tanpo. Reaching the Wairakei Valley on Tuesday, the party will spend ono or two days there, and then journey 'by way of Waimangu to Rotorua, where it is intended to spend three days.

Prince Leopold will leave Auckland on February 15 hy the P. and 0. liner Macedonia, for Sydney.' From Sydney he will sail by the Japan- Company's Nikeu Maru on Wednesday, February 22, for China. It is anticipated that the Prince v. ill return to England about (he end of the first week in June.
