UNION CO.'S PASSENGER VESSELS.
TO BE EQUIPPED WITH "WIRELESS."
Questioned by a Dohi.vion reporter last evening, Sir James Mills stated that arrangements for tlio installation of "wireless" instruments on all the Union Company's passenger steamers were far advanced. Nothing would be finally settled until the New Zealand Government had decided definitely upon what system they would adopt at the stations which are to be erected shortly around the New Zealand coast. Probably the Union Company would, to a great extent, no influenced by what tlio Government were going to do in the matter. The above rvlipmo will enable vessels to communicate with each other, and the coast stations at any lime, and will no doubt be of great benefit to the travelling public a well as business people in the Dominion. So . far ilie omy vt-.-spl in tlio intercolonial or New Zealand coastal service fitted with "wireless',' is the Huddart-l/arker Company's .steamer Uiimaroa.and some excellent results have been achieved on the latter vessel sineo its inception. In the erection of these installations on their passenger vessel's, the Union Company is keeping well up with the times, for it is only very recently that steamers have been equipped witii instruments that send messages through the air.
