PRESENTATION TO MR. MASSEY.

CEREMONY AT AUCKLAND. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Auckland, January 22. The services rendered by Jlr. \V. 1\ Massey, M.P., in bringing under the notice of Parliament last .session the action of the Customs officials in including agent's commissions when levying ad valorem Customs duties, and in getting the Minister to undertake to make nn investigation, were suitably recognised yesterday. A number of local importers, headed by Messrs. J. Clare and J. I'. Hooton, waited upon Mr. Massey, and, after according him a hearty vote of thanks for the interest he had taken in the matter, presented him with a solid gold pencil case as a slight memento. Jlr. Massey, in reply, thanked the importers for their kindly reference to the action ho had taken, and said if the matter Jiad not been remedied by next session ho would again bring it forward. He was only too glad to help them, andhe hoped he would he even more useful to them than in the past.
