VIVISECTION OF CRIMINALS.
'AMERICAN SURGEON'S IDEA.
Dr. Benjamin Merrill Ricketts is reported by the "New York Tribune" as favouring vivisection of criminals under certain conditions, declaring that vivisection in both man and animals was essential for a more rapid progress 'in the science of medicine and surgery. Dr. Rickett, wlio is a noted surgeon, said it would bo all right to conduct the experiments on criminals who gave their consent. Ho further believes that offenders who offer their living bodies as a possible sacriiico for future generations should be rewarded with their liberty.
That more perfect knowledge may be had, criminals should bo given the opportunity to submit themselves to the hands of the . experimenters/ even though their lives may be jeopardised," says Dr. Ricketts.
