AUSTRALIA'S LAND TAX BILL.
EFFECTS ALREADY. APPARENT. At the' annual meeting of Messrs. Dalgety and Company in London, on November 17, Mr, Edmund. T. Doxat, the chairman of directors, made tho following reference to the new Land Bill of the Federal Government of Australia ' ■ "The introduction of a Land Tax Bill by , tho Federal Government, although full details are not to hand as to tho manner in which it will be carried out, causes gravo anxiety as to tbo effect it may have . on . station-holders and others, and not only' this, but if tho Federal Government imposes taxes of this nature it is quite possible .that' similar taxes, either on tho part, of the Federal or State Governments may follow. . "Already, we understand, that funds hitheTto employed in Australia have to some . extent been. diverted into other channels."One of the leading Australasian companies has .also recently altered- its articles of association which so far debarred it from making investments outside .Australia so as to admit of its doing so should the necessity, arise."
