AMERICA'S MUTTON SUPPLY.' For some .time tho news, wo havo rocoiyed. from the United -States has led to a belief that mutton price 3 • thoi'C would fall this season ih'consequence of plentiful supplies.',; . ; -. 'A r 'remarkable \ increase. in the supplies- of sheep to' tho great live stock market of tho United States is a. subject of notice by American papers. In the latter half of October about a million sheep.were delivered in tho western markets, or 155,000 more, than in any corresponding period of .tlio past. Olio Teason • was that Wyoming;, had just been released from quarantine for the "lip and l?g disease," and contributed a two years', supply'in a few weeks, while Idaho, Montana, and Utah sent libcjal quantities.. Many of tho animals'were not fat,', and these were purchased by farmers in the ; 'maize States, where theTO aro now more sheep c pastures than there bavo been for many years past., , . Last season the shortage was such that the prices went, up to a .height .which warranted . a . trial shipment of New Zealand mutton. . The New Zealand "stuff" (as Americans, call'it) was only very small- in . quantity, but its quality .was so good, that it .created a splendid impression. , The shipment was diverted from London, and though it had to. bear, freight charges and duty it was sold profitably, and at less than cho American mutton, which is said to bo such very . poor. meat that colonials would not eat it. ■
