Tho Marlborough provincial championship and handicap tennis tournament was commenced yesterday in fmo weather. The following are the results:— First' Day. Men's Singles.—First round: G. Smythc b?at L. Griffiths, 6—2, 6—2. Men's Championship Doubles.—First round: L. Griffiths-and C. P. Hulmo beat H. Fathers, and R. Crewes, 4—6, G—3, G—2, Men's Handicap Singles.'—First round: Kempthorno beat Van Asch, 70—49. Combined Handicap Doubles.—Sirs. Waddy alid Anderson beat Mrs. Van Aich and Menlove, 6—o. Second Day. Play was continued to-day in unsettled weather. Fisher's brilliant play 'was much admired. Though Miss Nunneley and Miss Baird were beaten in the handicap doubles, they both showed cleverness.
