Mitchell, of C'olyton, who resided here for 17 years, has passed awav in her sixtv-fourtii year. She is survived by her 'husband, 5 sous and 5 daughters. The Cheltenham-Kiwitea Sports Club, which is holding its' annual meeting on New Year's Day, lias scoured record entries for its horse events. Despite the strong counter-attraction of the military tournament at Palmerston, the Feiidin'g Mounted Rifles ivill take part in tho Cheltenham events, Maior Dunk, of Palmerston, has consented to act as judge of the military events. The Ohakea School .Comr'Mttee has recognised the good" .work done by the teachers (Sir. Gtibitbs and Mrs. Bailey) by presenting the former "with a couple of beautifully . upholstered er.sy chairs, and the latter with a silver toilet set. The Kimbolton Tennis Club this week, defeated the Oroua Club by 10 sets to 8, or 116 games to 04.

"lie Shannon bowlers, determined to sscure the Kinniburgh Feathers from the local club, liavo again visited Otaki, but they suffered defeat, as on previous occasions, by several, points. * A meeting of delegates of various, rifle clubs in the district has been held to arrange a date on ishich to fire for the Field Shield. The date was fixed lor March 25, the competition to take plaoe at Palmerston North. The subscription was fixed at 10s. par team. Several new books have been added to the Otaki Library.
SHANNON,
Ideal weather conditions prevailed here during the holidays, and many of the residents were away for Christmas. Parties visited the Foxton beach, Paelcakariki, and other seaside resorts. Some of the local holiday-makers attempted to concentrate as much surf and sun-bath-ing as possible into the limited time ;at. their disposal, and look and feel like lobsters. One gentleman is even confined to bed as a result of underestimating the combined ■ potency of saltwater and the sun's rays. A party of glee .singers, equipped with an organ, drove round the town in the small hours of Christmas morning, and sang carols.' The •bowling green was well patronised, Messrs. J. Roach and W. Gnllaiid winning the club pairs. : ■
GREYTOWN
The Christinas, holidays passed off quietly in Grey town ithiS year, 110 sports of any kind being held. Those who wanted nu outing mostly wont to Pigeon Bush to the Friendly Societies' picnic. Others went to Martinborongh. Bowls and tennis w;cre indulged in locally to a large extent. Beautiful weather was experienced during the holidays, and no accidents arc reported. The hospital, in fact, is having a quiet, time. • Harvesting is .'now in full swing, and the farmers aro .making thb most of. the fine weather;-.
