The scheme is part ,of the tramway extension which is to bo undertaken ,bv the.' council,, tho Gonville-Castlecliff 'Tramway Board, and tjio Wanganui East Borough Council. The two 'latter bodies ■ ■ will link up their systems with that of; the Borough of Wanganui, which will t supply power for all three over a total' track of about twelve miles, and the j above represents , tho town's contribu-; tion to the combined scheme. It is ill-! tended also to extend -tho'tramways to: St. John's Hill and Upper Aramoho,; but this is a matter which does not I call for consideration immediately, and! a separate loan will be raised for that I, purpose when tho time -arrives. The motion in favour of amalgamation with Wanganui found only six supporters, and was overwhelm* ingjy defeated. ■
