HARBOUR BOARD.
i MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of "the Welling., ton Harbour Board, which was held last night, was attended by the chairman (Mr. R. Fletcher), and Messrs.' J. AY. 31'Ewan, J. G. Harkness, C. E. Daniel], C. W. Jones, W. T. Hildreth, Tewsley, F. G. Bolton, and the.Hon. T, IC: Macdonald. Tho statement of accounts was as follows Current account, dr. balance, £21,859; imprest account, cr. balance, £3; on fixed deposit, £111,000. Payments for the month: For accounts and wages, £16,075; for progress payments en contracts, £11,124; for salaries for December, £778. The New Zealand and African Steamship Company requested permission to work all night from to-night. It was, they said, imperative that tho ship jiliould get away on' Saturday ' night. Tho chairman was opposed to all-night work, but if there were special circumstanccs lie was not anxious to put any obstacles in tho way. Mr. Danioil supported .the application. Permiss"m lvas S ra uted as requested. The Wjiarves and Accounts Committee recommended tho board:— (1) To for tenders, closing in March, 1911, tor 307 tons cut and punched steel hoops, and ten tons malleable cast-iron studs for delivery in September and 1911; (2) to give Messrs. uallatc Bros, six months' notice as from January 1, 1911, of the board's intention to determine lease of oyster bed m Balena Bay on June 30, 1911, and 'to offer to tho firm lease oF a site on the eastern. side of Evans Bay in lieu thereof; and (3) to authorise the engineer at his discretion either to call for tenders for purchase of house for removal on Lot.l, part of sections 2728, Queen's _ Terrace, Miramar, or to' •shift same, if .found necessary. The report was adopted. \ The chairman reported:—(l) That thoWellington Harbour Board Empowering Bill, 1910, had passed .both Houses" of Parliament, and had become law, and, that Mr. C. H. Izard bad been directed to hand the deed cf release to Messrs. John M'Lean and Son, and their suretics in accordance with the. board's resolution of September 28, 1910. (2) That the Minister of Marine has acknowledged receipt of sealed copy of tho additional and amended by-laws dealing with hulks, and that the by-laws. came into force on December 16. (3) That tho Compensation Court had awarded £495 and costs to S. Morrell, and £305 and costs to Newman aud Meredith for Iflncls at Miramar; tho board's assessor, i ii •' Hannay, dissenting''from both judgments, holding that the board's offer at £475 and £280 respectively were fully adequate. ~ (4) That the .Marine Department had' approved of plans for boat skids at Karaka Bay for Mr. _F. Pownall.
It; was decided to adopt the report. Two tenders, which had been received w l i cx^,ls > on of culverts along Waterloo Quay, were referred to a subcommittee, with power to accept ths Jowest tender found in order.
