At a meeting of the City Council t» night ;a was passed, avowed-«'»-ly- witli the - intention of .doing away with tho practice ,of .early, doors .' at ' -/" theatres. Tho new by-law provides that - • the proprietors of theatres, concert • halls, etc., shall be compelled to sell tickets for /the performances at least • eight ihours prior to .-the conimencement"' '•' of.tho performance. The theatre pro-' '• prietor. also . be compelled,to-have' plans of. tlie. seating, of ■ the: different ■parts of their buildings -displayed at. the. various'.entrances, and a seat 1 once ■ purchased remain's at the disposal of. the purchaser during tho whole per-. . formance, and cannot be occupied" by... any person other than the holder of ' the ticket. , The council also passed a by-law preventing any., person - from- speaking,'- • . singing,.. 0r..-praying either alone or.:mf company, or-,.playing any gramophone or b" other musical'instruments,in Cathedrali ' ; Square without the written consent of-, the council.
