SHIP OFFICERS' SALARIES.
THE CASE CONCLUDED, By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrisht. Melbourne, December 14. In the Arbitration Court tho-discussion on tho Merchant ■Service Guild case has been concluded. ' Clause 2 was altered to provide that, after a master or officer bad served three months on one vessel bis service could be terminated only by a month's notico dn either side, -unless the officer was engaged for a special season or emergency trips, or tho vessel was taken out of commission through a strike. Officers may at any time be discharged for misconduct. Mr. M'Donald said that if companies were compelled to pay overtime in port it would cost an extra ,£10,00(1 a year. Mr. Justico Higgins said one company —the Union—mado .£75,000 a year, and if all the companies had to pay an extra .£IO,OOO it was not a serious matter.
It was arranged that the agreement should remain in force for thrco years, and bo signed on December 31.
