HASTINGS.
New, saleyards. have been established at Longlands, two miles out from Hastings. They are alongside tho railway line, and aro well situated in regard to tho main roads of tho district. Wed T nosday was opening day,' and a big yarding was in'ovidence. ( Tho rain' which fell on Monday night was the best which residents havo experienced this spring, but it only lasted an hour or two. It was followed by threatening weather on Tuesday, but ultimately the clouds passed .away. Tho Y.M.C.A. movement is making a promising commencement in this town, iho movement was only taken up a few weeks ago, hut already quito an. amplitude of funds has been promised, and many enthusiastic workers ■ have been enlisted. The following havo been nominated, for tho board of directors: Anglican: TheiMayor (Mr. J. A. Miller), Dr M'Kibbin, and Mr. R. Gardiner. Presbyterians: Messrs. T. J. Thompson and E. T. James. Methodists: Messrs H A.. IS. Hurley, T.'Collins, alid C. g' Cunnold.: Baptists: Messrs. W. Turner' M. W. Lascelles, and H.; E. Wright. Other-sects: Mr. M. Mason (secretary' and Mr. W. G. Turner. . y;, A movement is on foot to establish a casualty hospital for tho town. . At tho present time .the nearest public hospital is at Napier, twelve miles away. Air.; G.:P. Donnelly has mado ah alternative offer of a site or. of a donation of £500, on condition that five others coutributo £250 each.
