REGISTRATION OF PLUMBERS.
, NEW GOVERNMENT MEASURE. Although it. is not intended to pass it .this session, the Plumbers' Registration Bill was .introduced', in the House of Representatives yesterday for- circulation and. consideration' of those'interested during the recess. It provides that the Inspector-General of Schools shall register all duly-qoalitied plumbers. The qualification for , registration is having been in actual business as a .master plumber, or having been a. fully competent journeyman'plumber 'on. the passing of tho Act, or holding a certificate of tils ordinary or honours grade granted by the city .and guilds of London Institute or other certificate of at least equal value, or .having passed tho examination prescribed by. regulations under the Act. Tile Governor may make regulations for tho setting-up of boards of examiners, a fee (not exceeding .£1) to be charged for examination, etc. There is provision for appeal from the .decision of the Registrar to Magistrate. Registered plumbers are exempt from further examination or license fee. An unregistered journeyman' is not to be deemed a competent workman after July 1, 1911, and only registered plumbers are to be employed-on sanitary .work.
