GENERAL FARMING NEWS.
On Saturday, the. Very .Eev. Dean M'Kenna offered the Masterton A. and P. Association a prize of .£3 '3s. for a wool-classing competition at the show, to' be open for competition amongst the students of any technical school. On the •motion of Mr. J. Strang, the offer. was accepted with thanks, and a committee, consisting of Messrs. 6. C. Summerell and K Harper was set up to make the necessary'•arrangements. Tho erection of' the new hacon factory in connection with .the Okitu works was commenced at Matawhero, on Thursday (says, the Gisborno '.'Herald"). In the meantime' suitable'!.ar'rangementj are being made to carry on the manufacturing work expeditiously. • . _ Mr. G.'S. Sykes, secretary of the Masterton A. and P. Association, who has announced his intention of contesting the .Masterton scat at the next' election, tendered his resignation on Saturday. The matter was dealt with in committee, and it was decided that the resignation be accepted, but - that Mr. - Sykes be asked to act as secretary until after the next show. A Hawke's Bay. settler, writing to a -friend at Gisborne;' states that in Hawke's Bay lambs are being purchased at sd. 'per lb.' on station and 5Jd. delivered; fat wethers at 15s. 6d., and bullocks at 235. per 1001b —"Poverty Bay Herald." . The. Masterton A. and P. Association has set'up a 'subcommittee consisting of Messrs. C. ,F) Vallance, A. G. Pilmer, and W. D. Watson, to prepare conditions for the allocation of the prize of £20 for horses, made by the Wellington Racing Club.
