Tho Bank of England discount rats was •reduced: on January. 20 last from 4j per cent, to 3J per cent., and on February 10 ; to 3 per cent. On March 17 it was raised ,to 4 per: cent., on June 2 it was reduced to 131 per cent., and on June 9 to 3 per cent ■On September 29 it was raised to 4 per cent., and on October 20 to 5 per cent., at which rate it now stands.

Tho Bank of Franco rato was reduced from 3J to 3 per cent, on January 23. 1908, and remains at the latter figure. Tho Imperial Bank of Germany on January 21 last lowered its rate from 5 per cent., and on February 10 to 4 per cent. On September 26, the rate was raised to 5 per cent. MAEKET HATES OP DISCOUNT. Cargoes are fairly steady. For South Australian's afloat 355. 93, has been asked, and 365. for New South Wales steamer cargoes afloat, and 355. 3d. for throe ports. January-February shipments are obtainable at 355., but tho demand is small. Australian on the spot rules at 365. 9d. The American visible supply of wheat is 72,563,000 quarters. HIDE AND SKIN SALE. Messrs. Balgety and Co.. Wellington, report:—At our usual monthly salo wo olfered a large catalogue to a full attendance of bUyere. Competition was keen for all lots offered, arid tho following aro prices realised:—

Wool—Our offering under this heading consisted principally of back-country crutchings and dead wool; only a small quantity of fleece wool being lotted, which realised, good market prices. Atkinson and Co., Ltd., report a heavy yarding of pigs at their weekly sale, with prices slightly more in favour of vendors. Tho demand is still more for well-grown sorts, weaners and slips not being so ready of sale, though we were successful in quitting nearly the whole of our entry under the hammer. Poultry, are still very short in supply, and keen in demand, particularly for anything fit for table purposes. Wo sold a fow good horses and ■ a quantity- of saddlery. _ Table potatoes are very scarce, and prices will repay any who have been able to hold their stocks.
