OVER-CHURCHED WALES.

AND ITS UNDERPAID CLERGY. By Telejraph—Press Association—Copyright' (Rec. October 31, 11.25 p.m.) London, October 31. The Welsh. Church Commission reports that the population of Wales amounts to 2,012,917, whereas the charch and chapel seatings accommodate 1,972,502 persons. The Anglicans provide a church for every 1080 of the population, and the Nonconformists a chapel for every 450. The Commission declares that Wales is over-churched, and that the clergy are, underpaid. One-third of the Congregationalist ministers received under .380 a year. There are 195,000 Anglican communicants, being 23 por centum of all communicants.

The report does not touch the question of disestablishment and disendowment.

In June, 1906, a Royal Commission, under Lord Justice' Vatfghan- Williams as chairman, was appointed "To inquire into the origin, nature, amount, and application of tho temporalities, endowments, and other properties of the Church of England in Wales and Monmouthshire, and into the provision made and work done by the churches of all denominations in Wales and' Monmouthshire for the spiritual welfare of .tin people, and the extent to which _ the people avail such provision and to report thereon."
